Bare Baskets

See my antique baskets hanging there? Naked they are! Right there on the front doors for all to see.
They look nice due the ornate backing, but there were arrangements in them. I had to remove them.

A lovely feathered couple decided to move in last week. Into the baskets. I heard a commotion out front and went to check. The one bird somehow became entangled in their own nesting material they had put in the one basket. I had to gently unravel as much as I could from the bird's wings. I decided I might need scissors to cut the rest so I would not hurt the bird. I went to retrieve the scissors and when I returned the bird was gone. I quickly removed the arrangements from the baskets leaving a bare look.

You would think I would learn. One time I had wreaths on the front doors. One evening when I opened the door which opens into the house, a little wren flew in from the wreath and sat on the banister by our stairs. Okay, let's just shoo you out. I opened the door again and in flew mr. wren. He sat on our kitchen cupboards and decided to scold us all.

Hmmm...plan B. Shut off all the lights in the house. Turn the porch lights on. Open the doors and stand back. It worked. Out they flew and I quickly slammed the doors shut. We've had many critters come into our home. Someday I'll have to tell ya about the flying squirrel in our living room. Uninvited, of course.

Anyway, yesterday I walked out onto the front porch and there laid a bird's nest. Didn't come from the baskets on the doors. After examining it's shape, I knew it came from the top of the post on our porch. I reached up and tucked it back in place while a bird watched me. I went in and she flew to her nest and started working on it. It fell again. Oh for pete's sake! I went out and put it back. She came again and this time was able to accomplish her little task. Sometimes we just need a little help!

Mother Nature Makes Scents

As I was getting dressed this morning, a fresh scent rose up and greeted my nose.
Really, it did. So I had to hold my shirt up to my nose and take a deep breath.
Ahhh...pure heaven. I then remembered that this shirt was put out on the line to dry yesterday.

I could actually smell the fresh, clean spring day we had yesterday on this shirt.
This is a big deal for me. I do love the whole concept of hanging clothes on the line.
But there's more to it. Unfortunately, I'm allergic to smells. The unnatural kind. The toxic kind.
Candles, perfumes, detergents...most anything that is produced by mankind.

So I do my best to avoid these products, make my own when I can, and live out here in the country on the lake to partner up with Mother Nature. Now just to let ya all know...I do have some outdoor allergies.
But on the whole, the natural world is good for me. Mother Nature just makes sense (scents).

How Time Stands Still...

...when you have no internet. For days on end.
The computer and my shop are so part of my daily routine.
When it's not available, I feel a little lost.

My hook up is temporary right now and I do not know how long it will last.
So sorry I have not visited anyone or left any comments recently.
And I want to welcome all new followers. So happy you are here.

Looking forward to today.
May do a little pickin'.
Will do some yard work.
And want to visit you all.

Ready to spring ahead,

Pickin' Season

The weather is starting to warm up and spring is just around the corner.

Time to get out and about cause it's pickin' season!
We headed out to a flea market yesterday and came home with some industrial finds.
Oh how I love industrial finds.
The clock is from a school. Not sure about the lights, but they are heavy duty.
Now for a little spring cleaning and they'll be ready for the shop.

Have a good old spring day,

Homemade Touches

I just finished making this bouquet for my niece's bridal shower.
Pretty roses, a little lace, and some sore fingers.
What can I say, sometimes I'm a little clumsy when it comes to wire projects.

Anyhoo, I wanted her shower to be special with homemade touches.
Yes I'm frugal, but to me homemade means that it was made with love.

And I do love my niece. She's a pretty special gal. In fact, she's pretty frugal herself.
And I like to pretend that she takes after her Aunt Cindy!

Wishin' ya all a lovely day,

Linking to White Wednesday!

Worn and Tattered

It wasn’t the newest one on the shelf or in the best shape.
But it was the one I was drawn to. So worn and so tattered.

I had my choice among so many, but this is the one that came home with me.
And every time I look at it, I will think of my Dad.

My Dad is an avid reader and has decided to pass on his collection of books.
I now feel so fortunate and it makes me so appreciative.
This little worn and tattered book brings fond memories of everything that makes my dad so special.

Until next time,

Tornado Time

It should be cold here. There could possibly be snow on the ground.

But, no. It was in the 70's yesterday with tornadoes.
I could not accomplish much at all due to keeping an eye on the news, just in case.
I'm glad I take the weather seriously and went to the basement when alerted.

The tornado hit very close to us. If I was out in our back yard, I would have seen it. The main road was closed due to downed trees and debris. Luckily, no one in our area was seriously hurt.

Now they are saying we may have a repeat performance tomorrow. I hope they are wrong.

Always stay safe,
