Growing Catnip

This is my first attempt at growing catnip.
It has been very slow, but it's now beginning to look promising.

I seeded it in a galvanized bucket and Kit Kat just discovered it.

Lookin' good.

Smellin' wonderful!

I think she likes it!!!

What about you...have you ever grown catnip?
I was thinking of possibly drying it and making Kit Kat some toys.
Any tips or advice?

When I planted catnip I should of put it in a pot of some kind. I planted it in my flower bed and it took over. Cute kitty!!!

I've been growing it for a few years and one of my 2 kitties (Smudgie) goes berserk! I have it planted in a long, shallow wooden box and he rolls in, sleeps in it and eats it.

It's hard to keep it growing with Smudgie in it all the time but this year when it started to come back I added seed around it and now it's nice and full.

Your cat looks just like mine, black as coal! Catnip grows wild here in the woods so there is always plenty. My cat is a house cat but she knows which direction the fresh catnip comes from and lets me know as I approach the front door...where's my treat! I sew little squares together out of any kind of fabric and add the catnip. Have fun!

After exchanging holiday gifts with a dear friend for many years I switched to giving gifts to her cats instead. (Literally ran out of original ideas for her birthday!) It has turned into such a fun gifting experience - for their birthdays this year Pixie and Dixie received their own catnip garden from their Aunt Sarajan! We have laughed so much, watching them roll and purr over their 'crop'.

You have one cutiepie kitty there!! And patient too :-)
I've never grown catnip but did have catmint and cats love that too. We had stray cats that would sleep in it!

My MIL used to grow catnip. When my girls were little, we would sew up small fabric squares and put the catnip in it for our kitties. They lived it!!

Grows wild here and the cats know where!
I can always tell when they have been in it.

I have 2 large bunches/bushes of catnip. My cats adore it! They sleep in it, stiff it, nibble on it...they're too cute. LOVE yours in the galvanized bucket! Such a cute decorating spin! KIT KAT is darling! From one sweetie to another~~~~Roxie

What a cute post! I like Kit Kat! Our farm cats would probably think they'd died and gone to heaven if I planted catnip for them. . .but, I'm thinking about it. . .

Hi! Cindy,

Too cute Kit Kat :o)I'm a huge cat lover. Kitty is enjoying the nip lol.

I have never grown catnip, but I have planted cat grass. Our Bailey loves that. Your catnip is growing nicely!

For making cat toys with the nip, I would probably make little tucks in shapes such as a paw, bird, etc...with a lovely organic fabric. Soooo many ideas lol

Thanks! for sharing. Have a fabulous weekend!

Blessings & Hugs,

I've never thought of growing catnip. Do they eat it? What do cats do with cat nip?

Just you wait girl, you'll have catnip up the ying yang. lol! My favorite one that I grow is Nepetia. I grow it as a hedge along my herb garden. It has the prettiest dainty purple flowers. After it flowers I cut it down to the ground. In two weeks it's right back up full and bushy. Spreads badly, but easy to pull out. Kitty will be in catnip heaven.
